In May of 2019, I did a TEDx talk that started with a brief mention that I quit my government job of 8 years to pursue my passion full-time.
I went on to discuss the ups and downs of my journey of entrepreneurship. I didn’t, however, talk about the fear I had to overcome to get to that point. So, today, on the first day of a new month, a new year, and a new decade, I want to share what I found on the other side of fear.
Fear has a way of making you believe that a big, bad monster with fangs of restriction and struggle will eat you and all your dreams if you decide to try. So, naturally, when I realized that not only does the dream-death monster not exist, I found that there is liberty in abundance!
When I chose my dreams despite fear, I found a freedom I had never experienced. My decision to begin a journey toward quitting my job alone was proof that I had more options than I ever gave myself the authority to choose. I was free to choose myself. I was free to say “no” to what was given to me as a norm.
Just as I turned the corner past fear, I found a long, never-ending road of opportunity. Suddenly, so many of the things I thought were impossible were completely possible.
I had been limiting my possibilities by giving my time, energy, and resources to things that didn’t lead me down the road to happiness or growth. Fear was a curtain hiding my window of opportunity with a stunning view of my bright future.

In 2019, I
I could never have done these things, and few more, I’m sure I didn’t list if I was stuck behind my desk afraid of what my fears were feeding me.
Fear can be paralyzing. This is why I have taken special care to remind entrepreneurs of those nontechnical aspects of entrepreneurship that can be just as limiting as lack of capital or skill. There is more to it.
Join me on my first Elevation Academy “Build” of 2020. This is a FREE, 7-day process of thinking through the aspects of entrepreneurship that have nothing to do with accounting, licensing, marketing, or any other technical aspect of running a business.
